Aiman Khan questions flying-car obsession as climate crisis worsens

Actor Aiman Khan has questioned the world's fascination with flying cars amid the worsening climate crisis, sharing an Instagram story that highlighted the contrast between futuristic technological ambitions and the environmental disasters affecting communities around the world. In the story, Khan shared footage of severe flooding, showing vehicles partially submerged in muddy water, alongside the caption: “I cannot tell you how uninterested I am in flying cars when the planet is collapsing.” Although she did not explicitly mention Elon Musk, her post came amid renewed attention surrounding the billionaire entrepreneur's ambitions for flying-car technology. On October 15, Tesla showcased its next-generation Roadster at a SpaceX facility in Texas. The demonstration featured a vehicle equipped with thrusters that performed a brief airborne manoeuvre. Musk presented the development as a glimpse of a future in which flying cars could become a reality. Khan's post offered a contrasting perspective, drawing attention to the environmental challenges that continue to affect people's everyday lives. For communities hit by flooding, immediate concerns include safe housing, accessible roads, reliable electricity, clean drinking water and effective emergency response systems. Pakistan's experience illustrates how climate-related disasters can have consequences long after floodwaters recede. In 2022, catastrophic monsoon flooding affected millions of people across Pakistan, destroying homes and agricultural land and causing extensive economic damage. The disaster drew international attention to the country's vulnerability to climate-related hazards. More recently, an August 2026 report highlighted findings from WWF-Pakistan on rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, floods, droughts and glacial lake outburst floods. The report also examined extensive agricultural and infrastructure damage associated with the 2025 monsoon season. These challenges underline why climate change is not merely an abstract environmental issue but one that affects public safety, economic stability, food security and human wellbeing. Khan is among Pakistan's well-known television actors and social media personalities. She rose to prominence through dramas such as Meri Beti, Mann Mayal and Ishq Tamasha, building a substantial following during her acting career. Her personal life and professional decisions have also attracted public interest, particularly after she stepped back from regular television appearances following her marriage to actor Muneeb Butt in 2018.
