Zain Zoheb, widely recognized as the youngest qawwali band in the subcontinent, is once again making waves on the global stage. The duo, best known for their collaboration on Thagyan from Coke Studio Season 14 featuring Quratul Ain Baloch, is now trending worldwide with their 2022 track Ranjheya Ve. As of March 5, Ranjheya Ve has secured the 9th spot on Spotify’s Viral 50 – Global list, further cementing its growing popularity. The song’s music video has also garnered 9.7 million views on YouTube, adding to its impressive success. Zain and Zohaib, grandsons of Ustad Haji Rehmat Ali Khan, who played the second harmonium for the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for over four decades, first gained prominence with Haiderium, an eight-minute qawwali from Nescafé Basement Season 5. With Ranjheya Ve, they continue to explore mysticism, delving into themes of higher love and self-surrender, while blending traditional qawwali with modern elements, including guitar refrains by Balaj Hussain. The song's visually striking music video, directed by Lahore-based photographer Saad Ayub Yratta, was filmed at one of the city’s iconic heritage sites. The video features Fatima Amjed, Hassan Raza, and Hamza Khwaja, known for his role in the award-winning film Kamli. Earlier this year, Zain Zoheb released their album Back to Live on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. However, Ranjheya Ve remains their biggest hit to date. In 2023, they contributed to the OST of Abdullahpur Ka Devdas, a popular Pakistani drama serial, and later collaborated with Indian musicians Amrita Kaur and Manna Singh for Guru Nanak Tu as part of Purab Mubarak Season 1, a project focused on promoting Guru Nanak’s message of peace and unity.
