'It's So Bad it Has to Be Seen to Be Believed:' The Internet Reacts to Ibrahim Ali Khan & Khushi Kapoor's 'Nadaaniyan'

Karan Johar's latest production venture, Naadaaniyan, under his banner Dharma Productions, was released to the public recently and well... let's just say it went worse than we even thought was possible. The movie marks the acting debut of Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan, alongside Khushi Kapoor, daughter of the legendary late Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor. Khushi’s debut was also seen earlier on Netflix's The Archies, directed by Zoya Akhtar, but, well, let’s just say that debut didn’t exactly light the screen on fire either. The movie also boasts a strong supporting cast with veteran actors like Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, Jugal Hansraj, and Mahima Choudhry, who, let’s be honest, basically carried the acting in this movie on their backs—because the debutants Ibrahim and Khushi didn’t exactly bring much to the table. Despite a promising cast and Karan Johar’s backing, Naadaaniyan premiered on March 7, 2025, to a rather tepid reception from audiences and critics. While some viewers appreciated its attempt to explore new themes and relationships, the majority couldn’t help but point out the film’s flaws, especially the pacing, lackluster character development, and the acting (or lack thereof) from the star kids. As X is one of the more ruthless social media platforms, people did not hold back. "The nexy guy that hurts me i'm gonna tie him to a chair and make him watch Nadaaniyan." Yikes... isnt't that too harsh? One of the major issues audiences raised was the film’s dubbing—particularly Ibrahim Ali Khan’s performance, which left viewers wondering if the movie was dubbed by a robot. The quality of the dubbing didn’t help the overall experience, leading to memes and jokes that the film was "AI-generated" or looked more like an Instagram reel or a TV commercial than an actual movie. The visuals may have looked polished, but they certainly didn’t compensate for the underwhelming substance. It’s not that Naadaaniyan had an immense amount of promise from the start. After all, we had already seen Khushi Kapoor in The Archies and, well, that didn’t go so well either, did it? Still, people were genuinely excited to see Ibrahim Ali Khan make his Bollywood debut. The star kid had already made a name for himself with the Indian paparazzi, with playful interactions that would go viral almost daily. But when Naadaaniyan hit Netflix, disappointment became an understatement. "Ibrahim, you deserved a better debut." We couldn't agree more! However, there were some users that were not so leninet on Ibrahim. "IAK is so bad that it's hard to imagine him getting a TV ad let alone a film." Some have even gone as far to say that he was 'better as a concept'. Now that's a burn that's hard to come back from! The real problem with Naadaaniyan is not just the nepotism debate, but the glaring fact that these star kids—despite being given huge opportunities—are not delivering. The industry has seen many nepotism products who’ve proved themselves through sheer talent and dedication, such as Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Varun Dhawan, Tabu, Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, and more. These actors have worked hard to earn their places in Bollywood, and their passion shines through in every role. Meanwhile, the star kids in Naadaaniyan seem to have missed the memo. One user on X appreciated the nostalgia the senior actors gave us and called out projects such as 'Nadaaniyan' and 'The Archies' . These projects are glorified launch pads for not so talented pr driven star kids - script and content be damned.' Mic drop! Even though statistically, the movie is doing well on Netflix due to hte hype surrounding it and people are watching itout of sheer curiosity as well but let's be real, the film owed majority of its watch time to a little phenomenon called, 'hate-watching'. Some users have realised how good they had it and did not realise it. When a film makes Loveyapa look good..you know there's no saving grace. Check out some more hilarious tweets The audience is craving something new! Just because it worked for 'Student of the Year' back in 2012 doesn't mean it will work all over again in 2025! "Why are they stuck on the same template, rich college, scholarship guy etc." Perhaps the most brutal review of them all is: At the end of the day, Naadaaniyan is one of those films you’ll probably want to forget as soon as possible, but don’t worry, it’ll stay with you forever… much like a bad meme.
