Joining the ranks of celebrities speaking up for Palestinians, American rapper Macklemore has found success with his latest offering Hind’s Hall, a track that openly condemns the widespread genocide running rampant in Gaza. According to the Guardian, Hind’s Hall is named after the Columbia University building renamed from Hamilton Hall by student protesters to reference Hind Rajab, a five-year-old child killed in Gaza. “If students in tents posted on the lawn / Occupying the quad is really against the law / And a reason to call in the police and their squad / Where does genocide land in your definition, huh?” Macklemore raps, referring to the police crackdown against student protests in the US. Student protestors across college campuses in the US made headlines for standing in solidarity with those suffering in the Middle East, particularly those in Gaza. Making waves across a number of Billboard charts, Forbes reported that in its first week of availability, Hind’s Hall sold 6,773 copies. According to the publication, the tune enjoyed a lofty opening on several lists thanks to very healthy sales figures, which largely powered the standalone tune, becoming a notable win for the Grammy champion. Performing well across three separate Billboard rankings, the track debuted at number 7 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart. Having resonated with Macklemore’s fans, many of whom endorse the same values as him, Hind’s Hall marks just the second time the rapper has been on the top 10 purchase-only list without his former collaborator Ryan Lewis. In addition, Hind’s Hall also launched the highest on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. The Rap Digital Song sales list is specific to bestselling rap-only tracks in the country. With Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us still topping the list, Macklemore narrowly missed out on his first solo number 1. Meanwhile, Hind’s Hall also performed well on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales tally. On that roster, which includes rap, hip-hop, and R&B, Hind’s Hall shot straight to number 3.
