Court grants divorce to Honey Singh as wife withdraws domestic allegations

After a marriage of nearly 13 years, singer-rapper Honey Singh and his wife Shalini Talwar were officially granted a divorce by a Delhi court on Tuesday, reported The Hindustan Times. The divorce was finalised by Principal Judge Paramjit Singh of the family court, marking the end of a legal battle that lasted for almost two and a half years. Under the Hindu Marriage Act, a second motion is typically filed between six to eighteen months after the initial divorce petition. This waiting period, known as the interregnum, is designed to provide both parties with time and space to reflect on their decision to proceed with the divorce. Singh and Talwar, who were married in January 2011, jointly filed for divorce in the family court in September 2022, citing section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. The court accepted their petition and granted the required six-month interregnum period. Ishan Mukherjee, the attorney representing Honey Singh, confirmed to the publication that "the divorce decree has been issued, and the second motion has been granted." He emphasized that the matter is a private matrimonial issue and refrained from providing further comments. Talwar's attorney, Advocate Vivek Singh, also declined to comment, stating that it is a marital dispute. In August 2021, Shalini had filed a domestic abuse case against the singer with the Delhi Tis Hazari Court. A few days after the case was filed, Singh took to social media to vehemently deny the allegations, describing them as "malicious," "false," and "odious." However, the allegations were subsequently dropped following a settlement between the two parties. Have something to add to the story? Share it in the commnets below.
